OTTAWA--(Business Wire)--
The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the world's
largest association of privacy professionals, today announced that it has been
awarded a grant from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (OPC) of Canada to
expand its Canada KnowledgeNet program. The IAPP Canada KnowledgeNet program
brings together privacy and data protection professionals for education and
networking with peers through experts` presentations on topics of timely
relevance. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions, share experiences, mingle
with colleagues, and make new acquaintances.

With funding from the OPC grant, the IAPP will facilitate 15 KnowledgeNets in
four cities across Canada over the next year-Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, and
Vancouver-in addition to existing meetings in Toronto. These free events will be
tailored to serve the specific needs of local privacy and information security
professionals in the private and public sectors.

"We are grateful to the Commissioner`s office for their leadership in supporting
the privacy profession. The expanded KnowledgeNet program will help strengthen
knowledge among Canadian privacy stakeholders and further galvanize Canada`s
leadership in the global privacy arena," said Kris Klein, Managing Director of
IAPP Canada.

IAPP board member, Jeff Green, CIPP/C, Vice President, Global Compliance & Chief
Privacy Officer of Royal Bank of Canada, said, "Privacy professionals are at the
forefront of building trust in today`s information economy and protecting
Canadians` personal information. I applaud Commissioner Stoddart and her staff
for their efforts to broadly develop this expertise."
