Technology Solutions Company to Help Certify and Implement Link-16 Radio Waveforms MCLEAN, Va.--(Business Wire)-- Alion Science and Technology, an employee-owned technology solutions provider, has been awarded a $1.23 million Navy contract to provide Link-16 EMC radio waveform certification support to the Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center San Diego, Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (PEO C4I). Link-16 is a Department of Defense (DoD) secure, jam-resistant, high-speed spectrum data link that allows military aircraft, ships and ground forces to exchange near real-time text, imagery data and digital voice messages. The work, which will be performed under the Alion-operated Modeling and Simulation Information Analysis Contract (MSIAC) vehicle, includes research, analysis, modeling, simulation and engineering support to PEO C4I. Alion will present its findings and make recommendations on EMC feature design, certification test plans and procedures, and certification results on all Link-16 systems. "The new radio waveforms for Link-16, will expand the capabilities of the current system and provide better, more accurate exchanges of battlefield information to assist the warfighter and promote higher rates of mission success," said Sue Archer, Alion Senior Vice President and Manager of the Operational Solutions Group. "The waveforms are being implemented in a variety of terminals, including the Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS), Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), and the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) to help reveal locations of friendly and enemy forces." Before the terminals can be deployed, the built-in test circuitry, which is designed to monitor the waveform time and spectral characteristics and automatically inhibit Link-16 terminal transmissions that exceed Department of Commerce standards, must be certified. The work is sponsored by the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office, 1901 N. Beauregard St., Suite 500, Alexandria, VA 22311. MSIAC is the DoD center for integrated support of the modeling and simulation community. The center provides broad support for M&S programs throughout the government. In addition, M&S University, developed by Alion for the MSIAC, provides training on how to use M&S to make training, acquisition, logistics and experimentation more effective.
