                          Transfer of Treasury Shares                          

Spectris plc announces that on 1 June 2009, the following ordinary shares have
been transferred from treasury stock for the purposes of employee share option
allotments under the Spectris Performance Share Plan:

5,377 shares of 5 pence per share

Following the above transfer, the total number of Spectris plc ordinary shares
in issue (excluding the total of 9,645,200 ordinary shares now held in
treasury) is 115,359,923.
