EWI Names Nuclear Fabrication Consortium Chair

Jerry Oliver to Hold Interim Position of Chairman COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 1 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- EWI has announced that Jerry Oliver has become the first Chairman of the newly established Nuclear Fabrication Consortium (NFC). Effective May 27, 2009, Mr. Oliver is responsible for leading NFC, organizing meetings and ensuring the needs of NFC membership are addressed via workshops, graduate level research, and a core studies program. He will also manage the day-to-day activities of the NFC, maintain membership such that ample funding is available for NFC activities, and develop public-private partnerships. Jerry Oliver was most recently the Executive Vice President of Commercialization at Great Point Energy, Inc., where he was responsible for all project-related activities including building a more than $30 million pilot plant. Prior to that, he served at Senior Vice President of Project Development for the FutureGen Industrial Alliance, Inc., a position that included development of the groundwork for a $1 billion commercial scale near zero emissions coal-fueled power plant. He also served in various senior leadership positions at Bechtel, ABB Automation, British Petroleum/Sohio, and Exxon Minerals. He started his career with Kennecott Copper Corporation and was an officer in the US Navy. About the Nuclear Fabrication Consortium The Nuclear Fabrication Consortium (NFC) was launched in July 2008 by EWI as a collaborative effort between the nuclear industry's utilities, OEMs, system manufacturers, and component suppliers. NFC is working to reconstitute the fabrication supply base and to identify and support collaborative manufacturing technology development efforts, which can provide reduced acquisition costs and enable development of key components for next-generation systems. To date, NFC members have identified over 200 issues and concerns regarding gaps and needs in workforce training and development, materials and manufacturing technologies, compliance with codes and standards, knowledge management, and cultural issues across the industry. In addition, the Consortium will organize similar types of collaborative efforts for other industry sub-segments to pool resources to meet technology development and application meeting their common needs.
