Russ, Chunko to Lead Operating Regions at Genesee & Wyoming Inc.

GREENWICH, Conn., June 1, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (GWI) (NYSE: GWR) today announced the promotion of Ronald G. Russ and Andrew T. Chunko to senior vice president. Russ will lead GWI's Oregon Region, which includes the Portland & Western and Willamette & Pacific railroads. He joined GWI in March 2009 as deputy general manager of the Oregon Region and has more than 30 years of railroad and financial management experience. He was previously executive vice president and chief financial officer with Kansas City Southern (NYSE: KSU). Prior to that, he was a founder, treasurer, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Wisconsin Central Transportation Corp. Chunko will lead GWI's Rocky Mountain Region, which includes the Utah Railway and contract coal loading operations in the Powder River Basin. He was previously vice president of GWI's Rail Link Region, where he was responsible for a combination of short line railroads and port operations. Chunko joined GWI in 2002 with the acquisition of the York Railway, where he served as operations manager. Prior to that, he held a variety of management positions with CSX Transportation, Inc. GWI owns and operates short line and regional freight railroads in the United States, Canada, Australia and the Netherlands and owns a minority interest in a railroad in Bolivia. Operations currently include 63 railroads organized in nine regions, with more than 6,800 miles of owned and leased track and approximately 3,000 additional miles under track access arrangements. GWI provides rail service at 16 ports in North America and Europe and performs contract coal loading and railcar switching for industrial customers.
