OTTAWA, ONTARIO, Jun 01 (MARKET WIRE) --
The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, will lead a
delegation of Veterans, youth and parliamentarians in France from June 3
to 9, 2009 for a series of events to commemorate the 65th anniversary of
D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.

During their journey of remembrance, the delegation will walk across the
beaches of Normandy, return to former battlefields and follow the path
along which Canadians fought as part of Operation Overlord on D-Day and
during the Battle of Normandy.

On the morning of June 6, 1944, Canadian and Allied forces stormed the
beaches of Normandy. Of the 150,000 who took part in D-Day, 25,000 were
Canadians. In the months that followed, during the Battle of Normandy,
more than 90,000 Canadians served in a monumental series of events that
would signal the beginning of the end of the Second World War. Of those,
more than 5,000 would lay down their lives.
