STOKE, UNITED KINGDOM, Jun 01 (MARKET WIRE) --
People the length and breadth of the UK are turning their backs on the
gloom and doom of recession and literally getting their homes in order,
according Terrys Fabrics - the supplier of quality curtains, blinds and
curtain poles. The company has seen a 10% increase in turnover over the
last six months following a Pounds Sterling 75,000 investment in
re-branding, on and offline marketing and recruitment.
The result has been more customers through the door at Terrys Fabrics'
stores in Stoke and Stockport and a significant increase in visitors to
the company's web site - www.terrysfabrics.co.uk. A huge increase has
been seen in the number of people looking for fabric for projects around
the home that they will complete themselves, as they strive to become
more self-sufficient and make the most of their disposable income. As a
result of this the business has taken on seven new staff this year and
may consider further recruitment around its peak period between September
and February.
Another key trend the business has noticed is that consumers are spending
more on fabrics and accessories to update their homes, rather than
investing in larger projects. The likes of extensions, conservatories and
attic conversions have been well and truly put on hold, as the public
concentrates on smaller scale makeover and new colour scheme projects to
revamp their houses. The expansion of the company's product portfolio to
include home accessories such as lighting, soft furnishings and mirrors,
has linked into this trend and has further boosted sales via the web site
and in store.
When belts are being tightened you would expect to see consumers opting
for cheaper products, however Terrys Fabrics has noted a trend to invest
in quality rather than quantity, in stark contrast to the 'throwaway'
culture we have experienced over the last few years.
Paul McGuinness, of Terrys Fabrics, said:
"In our experience people are, whenever possible, really wanting to
invest in products that are going to last, rather than fall apart after a
few months. Most homeowners now are not in a position to move house and
few can afford any major building work, so they're turning to fabrics and
accessories to give their homes a new lease of life. If they're not going
to be uprooting themselves for a few years it stands to reason that
whatever they purchase now needs to be able to stand the test of time.
"The last few months have been extremely busy for us in terms of
developing our web site, updating our brand identity and bringing
talented people into the business who will help us to achieve our
ambitious growth plans for 2009 onwards. In addition to this, and partly
because of it, we have also seen a significant increase in sales. We are
now looking forward to an exciting year ahead, and to building on our
already impressive achievements whatever the economic climate may be."
