INTERVIEW-China's Huawei says Wimax, CDMA sales surge
BEIJING, June 1 (Reuters) - Huawei Technologies [HWT.UL] China's largest telecom gear maker, said on Monday it expects global sales of Wimax equipment to double next year to $1 billion on orders from emerging markets.
Wimax, the wireless broadband technology, began to take off last year and will continue to grow rapidly in emerging markets with large urban populations but poor fixed-line networks, Zhao Ming, Huawei's head of CDMA and Wimax operations, told Reuters on the sidelines of a conference.
"This year it will be around $500 million ... and next year it should be around $1 billion," said Zhao, referring to sales of Wimax equipment around the world.
The company also expects its China share of CDMA equipment sales to rise from the current 38.9 percent, but intense competition will cause growth of its market share to slow, said Zhao.
The company, the world's third-largest mobile telecoms gear maker, also expects to get more than 25 percent of China Mobile's (0941.HK) current round of bidding for 3G equipment.
