Obama pledges support for new Lebanon government

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama pledged solidarity on Monday with Lebanon's new government, saying the country's peaceful election showed the Lebanese people's commitment to democracy.

"The United States will continue to support a sovereign and independent Lebanon, committed to peace, including the full implementation of all United Nations Security Council resolutions," Obama said in a statement following the election victory by a pro-Western coalition against Hezbollah and its allies.
