SHANGHAI, June 9 (Reuters) - SAIC Motor's (600104.SS) vehicle sales rose about 26 percent in the first five months of the year versus a year earlier, to more than 1 million units, the company's chairman, Hu Maoyuan, said on Tuesday.

He added that SAIC's vehicle joint ventures with General Motors (GM.N) and Volkswagen AG (VOWG.DE) did well during the period, while average monthly sales of its own-brand vehicles exceeded 6,000 units. (Reporting by Fang Yan and Edmund Klamann; Editing by Ken Wills)
