SAN FRANCISCO (Private Equity Week) - Nine U.S.-based startups last week raised early stage funding from venture capitalists, according to Thomson Reuters.

Among the companies to raise cash included MashLogic, which raised $500,000 from Bessemer Venture Partners and individual investors that included About.com founder Scott Kurnit, LinkedIn CEO Reid Hoffman, Wikia CEO Gil Penchina and SoftTech VC co-founder Jeff Clavier. Kurnit will join the company's board.

MashLogic offers an add-on for Internet browsers Firefox and Internet Explorer that allows users see additional content from third-party sites while browsing websites.

Bessemer Venture Partners is incubating the startup and put in most of the original $900,000 in seed money. The company has raised to date and works out of Bessemer's offices in Menlo Park, Calif.
