SAVANNAH, GA, Jun 10 (MARKET WIRE) --
PureSpectrum, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: PSPM) signed a contract on Tuesday with
Chinese electronics manufacturer Arcata Electronic, Inc. to manufacture
the company's dimmable electronic ballasts for linear fluorescent
lighting fixtures.
PureSpectrum will process manufacturing orders with Arcata based on sales
orders, and the company expects to begin manufacturing dimmable ballasts
addressable to two-lamp, 32-watt T8 linear fluorescent fixtures as soon as
the fall. PureSpectrum's patent pending dimmable ballast design contains
substantially fewer parts than commercially available dimmable ballasts
for linear fluorescent fixtures, enabling the company to market the high
performance ballasts at a cost that is lower than brand name commercially
available dimmable ballasts. Dimmable ballasts enable commercial and
industrial structures to utilize cost-saving, energy-saving lighting
strategies such as daylight harvesting and occupancy sensing.
Linear fluorescent fixtures are the most prevalent lighting product for
commercial and industrial applications in the world, and industry analysts
have projected the retrofit market to make linear fluorescent fixtures
more energy efficient could be $100 billion or more during the next few
years as the search for reduced energy usage intensifies. Industry
studies indicate that government regulations and increased consumer
demand will drive unit sales for electronic ballasts to grow at a
projected average annual rate of more than 12 percent through 2010.
Additional regulations within North America and Europe will drive the
linear fluorescent market toward electronic ballasts, and these
regulations coupled with an increased awareness of energy conservation
will drive both increased volume for new installs of energy efficient
linear fluorescent fixtures and the expansion of the retrofit market for
linear fluorescent lighting.
"Based on industry data and the demand for dimming in commercial and
industrial lighting, the linear fluorescent market is at least five times
larger than the market for Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL)," said
PureSpectrum president and CEO Lee Vanatta. "The CFL has garnered the most
attention by virtue of being the icon representing the energy efficiency
movement in lighting, and our first product introduction of a dimmable CFL
reflects the importance of the CFL market. But linear fluorescent fixtures
are the most widely used lighting application in the world, and the
ability to cost effectively retrofit linear fluorescent fixtures to be
more energy efficient and dimmable is very appealing for commercial and
industrial lighting."
