Cleveland's North Shore Comes Alive With Racing Sailors During the 10 Days of
Sailboat Racing at Cleveland Race Week

CLEVELAND, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- A proud tradition among racing sailors in
Northeast Ohio and beyond is Cleveland Race Week. Celebrating its 29th year,
the event will run from June 20 - 28 at Edgewater Yacht Club (EYC).

With its roots tracing back to 1980, the event began as two separate events
and has evolved into 10 days of racing for the young and the old (see attached
fact sheet). Organizers anticipate more than 200 boats from surrounding yacht
clubs on Lake Erie and beyond will converge to participate in the largest
competition on the Great Lakes.

The racing begins on Saturday, June 20 with the one-design fleets: J-22s,
J-24s, Jet 14s, T-10s, J105s, Highlanders and Dragons. About 100 boats will
compete just north of Edgewater on five separate race courses. Depending on
the wind, up to six separate races could be held the first weekend. Each
class will race against each other for first, second and third prizes over the
course of two days.

The second weekend of racing (June 27-28) is referred to as the Offshore
Division weekend. These boats are typically bigger and vary in design. Each
boat is assigned a rating or handicap that allows them to compete against on a
fair scale. They, too, will compete for prizes over races held over a two-day
period. On the Thursday and Friday before this weekend two traditional races
are held in the evenings. June 25 hosts the North Coast Mather Race, and June
26 features the Stewart/Jones/Schnur Race.

The weekdays in between feature events for various niche sailing groups. With
EYC's strong tradition for training young racers, it's no surprise that all of
Wednesday, June 24 is completely dedicated to these junior sailors. Tuesday
night is devoted to female racing sailors. Typically more than 100 women
participate on the race course the Tuesday night of Cleveland Race Week.
There's even a remote control model racing boat night on Monday where boats
less than two feet long maneuver their way around the basin.

Event details are available at www.ewyc.org/CRW2009. Members of the media are
welcome to attend any events. Spectator boat for media is available upon
request.

EYC is located on Lake Erie adjacent to the 117-acre Cleveland Lakefront State
Park, at the western end of the five mile-long main harbor. EYC was chartered
in 1914 as a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the sport of
boating. EYC is a member of the US Sailing Association (USSA), Inter-Lake
Yachting Association (I-LYA), Cleveland Sailing Association (CSA), and the
Greater Cleveland Boating Association (GCBA). The Club's diverse group of
members and the pleasant atmosphere contribute to its reputation as "the
friendliest club on the lake."
