HARRISBURG, Pa., June 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Education
Secretary Gerald L. Zahorchak today issued the following statement in response
to the passage by the Senate of Senate Bill 281:

"Today's vote, though disappointing, does not change our commitment to
ensuring that all young people graduate with a diploma that signals readiness
for college and a changing workforce. I agree with Joe Torsella, our State
Board of Education chair, as well as Senator Piccola -- this significant
policy discussion requires and will benefit from legislative buy-in. As we go
ahead, we look forward to working with all stakeholders to arrive at a
solution that results in the stronger high school graduation requirements that
our students, taxpayers and employers deserve."
