WHAT: On Thursday, June 11, Kaiser Permanente will be showcasing a
new generation of mobile health. A first-of-its-kind,
1,780-sq-foot, 12-wheel vehicle is en route to Hawaii's Big
Island, where it will improve health care access for thousands
of Kaiser Permanente members and uninsured Hawaiians in rural
              communities.

Before the unit is officially unveiled on July 2 in Hawaii, you
can join us in San Leandro for an advance look at the future of
mobile health with hands-on demonstrations of how patients can
access their electronic health records, state-of-the-art digital
mammography, video telemedicine and pharmaceutical dispensing,
regardless of their proximity to a clinic or hospital.

WHO: The following Kaiser Permanente spokespeople are available 9
a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 11 at the Kaiser Permanente Sidney
              R. Garfield Center in San Leandro to demonstrate the state-of-
the-art technology and capabilities of mobile health:

-- Susan Ganz, executive director, Service Delivery Planning,
                 Kaiser Permanente Hawaii
-- Dr. Daryl Kurozawa, MD, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii
-- Michele D. Flanagin, Vice President, Delivery Systems
                 Strategy, Kaiser Permanente

WHY: Kaiser Permanente is committed to providing health care services
when and where patients need them. In order to improve access
to health care in underserved rural areas and bridge economic
disparities in the diverse communities of the Big Island, this
mobile health vehicle expects to provide more than 5,000
mammography visits, 4,900 general health screenings and nearly
2,000 uninsured visits in its first year. The mobile health unit
will provide services on site at Hawaii employers and free
mammograms to boost the Big Island's low mammography screening
rates and to detect breast cancer when it is most treatable.

The mobile health team of a nurse practitioner, medical
assistant and mammography technologist will also conduct pap,
pelvic and breast exams, urinalysis, gonorrhea and Chlamydia
testing, cholesterol, glucose and waive testing, urinalysis and
              immunizations.

As one of America's leading health care providers and not-for-
profit health plans, Kaiser Permanente's efforts take wellness
initiatives beyond the doctor's office to build healthier
communities - and to provide Kaiser Permanente members and the
uninsured with connectivity, ease and convenience to access
              health care wherever they are.
