FACTBOX: Madonna can adopt a second child from Malawi

(Reuters) - Malawi's Supreme Court on Friday allowed U.S. pop star Madonna to adopt a second child from the country.

Here are some facts about Madonna, one of the most successful pop stars of all time:

* LIFE AT HOME:

-- At a party hosted by ex-Police front man Sting she met British film director Guy Ritchie and they married in December 2000. A son, Rocco Ritchie, was born in August 2000. The singer also has a daughter Lourdes, born in 1996, from her relationship with fitness trainer Carlos Leon.

-- In September 2008 Ritchie broke his silence over rumors that their marriage was on the rocks, telling People magazine it was "fine." The following month, Madonna and Ritchie announced their split, eight years after their wedding at Skibo Castle in Scotland.

-- In May 2008, a court in Malawi formally approved her adoption of David Banda, a baby boy she took home from an orphanage there. Critics accused the government of skirting laws barring non-residents from adopting children in Malawi, which has been badly affected by the AIDS epidemic.

-- Madonna appeared in a Malawi court in March seeking to adopt a second child, Mercy James. She was turned down in April. However on Friday the Supreme court said that the lower court had erred in turning down the adoption request because Madonna was not resident in Malawi.

Madonna surprised fans last month by dedicating another of her hits, "Like a Virgin," to the pope at a concert in Rome.

-- The album of the same title has become a global best-seller.

-- In her 1990 "Blonde Ambition" tour, she wore a Jean Paul Gaultier conical bra and covered the stage in religious imagery. The Vatican called it "one of the most satanic shows in the history of humanity."
