CAMPBELL, CA, Jun 16 (MARKET WIRE) --
Exalt Communications, the company that is reinventing microwave backhaul,
announced today that the East River Electric Power Cooperative, a
wholesale electric power cooperative serving a 36,000-square mile area in
South Dakota and western Minnesota, has deployed its EX-2.4i and
EX-2.4i-16 microwave radio systems. The new Exalt systems are being used
to upgrade legacy radio links of up to 30 miles between remote
substations and other facilities and the cooperative's SONET fiber ring.

"Some of our older microwave radio links had reliability problems and we
wanted to add bandwidth, so we evaluated a number of systems," said Scott
Seitz, microwave foreman for the East River Electric Power Cooperative.
"We chose Exalt radios for their superior performance and reliability, and
because the web-based management system allows us to remotely configure
the radios and save the cost of rolling a truck."

The EX-2.4i microwave radio systems can support up to 200 megabits per
second (Mbps) of Ethernet data and either four (EX-2.4i) or sixteen
(EX-2.4i-16) T1 lines with the company's exclusive CarrierTDD(TM)
technology, which provides 99.999% throughput availability. In the East
River Electric Power Cooperative network, the links carry substation and
power management data as well as the company's 800 MHz voice radio
system, which is used for communications by maintenance personnel.

"Power utilities need scalable and reliable radio links that work over
long distances in even the harshest weather conditions," said Amir
Zoufonoun, CEO of Exalt. "By upgrading to our EX-2.4i microwave radio
systems, utilities such as the East River Electric Power Cooperative gain
better control over widely distributed assets while reducing maintenance
costs."

All Exalt radio systems -- licensed and license-exempt -- are
carrier-class systems offering guaranteed link availability, guaranteed
throughput availability and low, constant latency. Designed to enable a
smooth transition to IP, they offer native support for both TDM and
Ethernet and are fully software configurable and upgradeable. For easy
and secure management using third-party network management systems, Exalt
systems support SNMP v1, v2c and v3. Data security is provided by
available FIPS-197 compliant AES 128-bit and 256-bit encryption that adds
zero latency to the transmission. To simplify installation and
maintenance, all Exalt systems feature an embedded manual and most
include a built-in spectrum analyzer.
