Leading Server, Software, Storage, and Networking Vendors and End-users Join to Expand HPC Knowledge and Future Development SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(Business Wire)-- The HPC Advisory Council, a leading organization for high-performance computing outreach and education, today announced that the council has expanded its educational and advisory programs to promote the expansion of high-performance computing in education, industry, and scientific applications. In addition to providing best practices for increasing the utilization, productivity and power efficiency for high-performance applications, the council will host world-wide HPC workshops in the US, Europe and Asia and will expand its research to include HPC as a Service (HPCaaS), virtualization, and HPC in a cloud. "In recent months, the HPC Advisory Council has increased its membership to over 80 organizations, provided live demonstrations of HPC technology at major industry conferences, delivered the first of our educational donations to foster the use of HPC technology in schools, and made significant content releases for application best practices to include applications from weather research, CFD, automotive simulation, bioscience, chemistry and more," said Gilad Shainer, chairman of the HPC Advisory Council. "The HPC Advisory Council will continue to assist and provide resources for industry and community organizations to better leverage HPC system capabilities and improve productivity and efficiency." The HPC Advisory Council is a membership organization that offers expertise and resources that facilitate the use of HPC systems in new organizations. Its member organizations include industry-leading server, software, storage, and networking vendors, and international research institutions. Recently, the Council has conducted several demonstrations and workshops that further these goals, and has expanded its programs in other key areas: * Workshops - The Council will be hosting its Asia workshop on October 28th, 2009, in conjunction with the HPC China conference in Changsha, Hunan, China. For more information, abstract submission and sponsorship options, visit (http://www.hpcadvisorycouncil.com/events/china_workshop/). * Advanced topics - The Council recently introduced a new Advanced Topics area on its website (http://www.hpcadvisorycouncil.com/advanced_topics.php) that offers case studies about the use of HPC resources for specific application areas such as providing HPC resources as a service and HPC in a cloud. * Best Practices - The Council has expanded its selection of Best Practices to include applications such as weather research, bioscience, quantum chemistry, oil and gas exploration, and automotive simulations. Additional applications now scheduled for release include analysis of computational fluid dynamics and the multiple applications required in that particular research environment, including engine and aircraft design; and cross-platform best practices for both Microsoft Windows and Open Source Linux environments. See the council website (http://www.hpcadvisorycouncil.com/best_practices.php) for more information. * Educational outreach - In late 2008, the Council delivered HPC tools and expertise directly to students with its first donation of an HPC cluster and software to an advanced mathematics class at Torrey Pines High School in southern California. * Technology demonstrations - At the International Supercomputing`09 conference in Hamburg, Germany, June 23-25, 2009, the Council will deploy a large multivendor 40Gb/s InfiniBand network demonstration which will feature "Remote desktop over InfiniBand." At the conference, the Council will also present its latest findings from the feasibility study on HPC in a Cloud, "Maintaining High Performance in a Cloud," on June 26, 9:40-10:20 a.m. Council members from AMD, Dell, Mellanox Technologies and Platform Computing will be presenting the research results. * Spring 2009 Face-to-Face Meeting - The HPC Advisory Council will hold its Spring 2009 Face-to-Face Meeting at the International Supercomputing`09 conference in Hamburg, Germany, on June 22, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The meeting will be held in the 2009 CCH-Congress Center, Hall 13 Meeting Room. To register please go to http://www.hpcadvisorycouncil.com/events/isc09_ftf/. About the HPC Advisory Council The HPC Advisory Council`s mission is to provide expertise and other resources that facilitate broader usage of HPC systems in government, education, industry, and research disciplines. Council members collectively bring together hundreds of years of expertise to help users improve efficiencies for better research, education, innovation and product manufacturing; to provide application designers with the tools needed to enable parallel computing; to strengthen the qualification and integration of HPC system products; to allow companies to develop better products and services and be more competitive; and to support comprehensive and complete education foundations by providing information and equipment to allow students to learn about HPC.
