SARASOTA, Fla., June 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Perhaps it's a record: A single architectural firm is working currently on five separate churches here. "If it's not history-making for one firm to be involved with so many churches at once, it must be nearly," says Donald M. Lawson, AIA, head of The Lawson Group, which over the years has designed more than 200 churches nationwide out of a total of more than 1500 projects of all kinds. At Bayside Community Church, construction has begun on a building of nearly 60,000 square feet that will begin as an interim Sanctuary and eventually house an auditorium, meeting space, a kitchen and a foyer. Risen Savior Church is nearing completion of its new building, and church members are contributing considerable labor. Opening is scheduled in about three months. For Harvest United Methodist Church, Lawson Group designed a 30,000 square-foot, two story, addition to an original church designed by the same architectural firm in 2002. It's the second part of a five-phase master campus plan. Opposite Harvest is the proposed new Cornerstone of Lakewood Ranch addition to existing facilities. The new facilities will contain a multi-purpose area, classrooms, and a lobby. The added structure will encompass more than 28,500 square feet. And Lawson Group has delivered to Tabernacle Church a master plan incorporating 113,000 square feet of buildings which are expected to be built in stages over the next several years.
