Financial Security Company Ranks 50th Overall, Only in Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Northwestern Mutual announced today that
the company is one of the top workplaces for information technology (IT)
professionals for the fourth year in a row. IDG's Computerworld, the leading
source of technology news and information for IT influencers worldwide,
included Northwestern Mutual in its annual Best Places to Work in IT survey,
which was published in the June 15 issue of the magazine and on its Web site.

On the list of 100 companies, Northwestern Mutual ranked 50 overall, 14 for
medium-sized companies (2,500 - 9,999 U.S. employees), and was the only
company ranked in the state of Wisconsin.

"Northwestern Mutual's consistent appearance on the Computerworld ranking is
testament to the strength and stability of the company, during both good and
difficult times," said Tim Schaefer, chief information officer of Northwestern
Mutual. "Year after year, we continue to offer employees the benefits,
opportunities and work environment that make Northwestern Mutual one of the
best places to work in IT."

Computerworld's annual "Best Places to Work in IT" feature ranks the top 100
work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive
questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits,
diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, this year
more than 27,000 IT workers were surveyed for the list, and their responses
factored heavily in determining the rankings.

"To be among the Best Places to Work in IT, it's not enough just to seek out
and hire the most talented IT people, offer them competitive pay and provide
great benefits," said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. "The
organizations that made this year's Best Places to Work list sustain a dynamic
work environment in which IT professionals keep their hands on the latest
technologies and work on projects that are business critical. In the months
and years ahead, IT is going to become a key accelerator of business growth."
