Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative Stakeholders Come to Washington,
DC for July Working Meeting
Stakeholders will focus on public and private initiatives that advance the
medical home model
WASHINGTON, June 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As politicians maneuver over
the summer months to craft a health care reform bill that will pass muster in
Congress, the leaders of the nation's major primary care physician
organizations, as well as employer groups, consumer groups and other health
care thought leaders will convene for a working meeting to advance the
patient-centered medical home model. The Patient-Centered Primary Care
Collaborative (PCPCC) will host a stakeholder's working meeting July 15-16 at
the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center, training their efforts on both
public and private initiatives that embrace the medical home model for health
care delivery.
The PCPCC is a coalition of more than 500 organizations representing the
nation's business leaders, consumers, primary care physicians and other health
care stakeholders. Working groups within the PCPCC, or its Centers, produce
materials designed to advance understanding and adoption of PCMH. These
active stakeholders will convene July 15 and 16 to discuss the current status
of health care reform proposals; both in-process and established medical home
initiatives within federal programs; consumer engagement topics; and the nuts
and bolts of building a successful private-sector medical home practice.
The Stakeholder's Working Meeting combines expert presentations on these
current topics with an afternoon of break-out sessions organized around the
PCPCC's four working Centers -- the Center for Public Payer Implementation,
the Center for eHealth Information Adoption and Exchange, the Center for
Multi-Stakeholder Demonstrations, and the Center for Employer Benefit Redesign
and Implementation.
"This is a timely opportunity for the nation's primary care voices to convene
in Washington, where health care reform is currently debated, and to
re-emphasize the importance of the patient-primary care provider
relationship," said Edwina Rogers, executive director of the PCPCC. "We will
hear from leadership in both the private and public sectors about the ways
preventive and chronic care delivery is enhanced through the medical home
model."
A sample of expert panelists invited to present:
-- Carolyn Clancy, MD, director, Agency for Health Research and Quality
-- Kathleen Toomey, MD, MPH, director, Center for Disease Control
-- Kathryn Power, M.Ed., director, Center for Mental Health Services,
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

The PCPCC is organized and financed to provide better outcomes for patients,
more efficient payment to physicians and better value, accountability and
transparency to purchasers and consumers. Studies of the PCMH model show that
it improves patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes. It also lowers health
care costs by improving care coordination and communication between primary
care physicians and their patients.
