Former U.S. Security Aide in New York Times Op-Ed: Stop the Infighting and Let
ICE Investigate Drug Crimes at the Southwest Border Now

Former Homeland Security official says "interagency dispute puts nation at
grave risk"

WASHINGTON, June 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Through an Op-Ed appearing in
today's New York Times, a former U.S. Homeland Security advisor has called on
the Obama Administration to quickly give U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE) agents the authority to conduct drug investigations. ICE is
the lead investigative arm for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and
can investigate any crime with a nexus to the border ... except drug crimes.

"With ICE unable to investigate drug crimes, it is the same as fighting the
drug cartels with one hand tied behind our back," said Bradley Schreiber, who
served as a senior advisor at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is
now president of Homeland Security Solutions. "The drug war is now at our
doorstep, and we need these missing soldiers more than ever."

"DEA is our nation's lead counterdrug agency - second to none," Schreiber
said. "But with stagnating budgets, increased missions across the globe and a
nimble enemy, DEA cannot do it alone."

Schreiber added that the interagency dispute has been going on for years and
Secretary Janet Napolitano and Attorney General Eric Holder need to resolve
this dispute personally. "This fight continues to put our nation at risk -
just like the fights between agencies prior to 9/11. These federal
departments must put aside their differences before the violence spreads over
the border."
