PARIS, June 22 (Reuters) - Sanofi-Aventis (SASY.PA) is sticking to its earnings goal for 2009 after sales were up 2.4 percent year-on-year as of the end of May, a union source told Reuters on Monday, citing comments by company managers. The world's fourth-largest drugmaker still expects earnings per share growth of at least 7 percent this year at constant currencies, the source said on Monday.
"Management told us that there was every indication that it would meet the earnings per share target it set for 2009," the source said, referring to a meeting between staff and managers on June 19.
Sanofi-Aventis declined to comment on Monday.
The company had posted a 2.5 percent rise in revenue to 7.11 billion euros ($9.85 billion) in the first quarter.
A member of the CGT union who attended Friday's meeting told Reuters Sanofi-Aventis was set to announce a major restructuring of some of its business lines and would give more details of its plans at a meeting with unions in the week of June 29.
Last October Sanofi said it was planning to cut 927 jobs in France as the company faces challenges from rivals on some of its key products. ($1=.7216 euros) (Writing by Dominique Vidalon; Editing by Greg Mahlich)
