nationally among four-year universities for Hispanic Computer Science bachelor`s
degree graduates
OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill.--(Business Wire)--
The education publication Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education has ranked DeVry
University the leading producer of Hispanic computer science bachelor`s degree
graduates in the states of California and Illinois. The publication also ranks
DeVry University`s locations in Illinois and California third and fourth,
respectively, in the nation for the same category.

The annual list from Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education was published in May
and is compiled of the top 100 four-year colleges and universities in the United
States which conferred the most bachelor`s, master`s and doctoral degrees on
Hispanic students. The list, derived from the U.S. Department of Education`s
Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), measures degrees awarded
during the timeframe of July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008. The complete
rankings can be found at www.hispanicoutlook.com.

"California and Illinois are two critical states in delivering on HITEC`s
mission to enable business and professional growth for Hispanics in IT
leadership roles," said David Olivencia, president of the Hispanic IT Executive
Council (HITEC). "We applaud DeVry University`s efforts and successes in helping
to ensure that the Latino population is represented well in the IT executive
pipeline."

Employment demand in the field of computer science has remained strong through
the recession and is projected to increase with the economy, leading to rapid
growth in computer systems design and related services. In fact, computer
scientist and database administrator occupations are expected to grow 37 percent
from 2006 to 2016, according to the Bureau of Labor statistics. Employment of
computer specialists is expected to grow as organizations continue to adopt and
integrate increasingly sophisticated technologies.

"Given the sheer number of quality educational institutions across the US, our
top rankings in the computer science category confirm DeVry`s commitment to
providing exceptional career-oriented degree programs for in-demand career
fields," said David J. Pauldine, president of DeVry University.

According to DeVry, minority enrollment constitutes approximately 50 percent of
the university`s student population system wide, many of whom are the first in
their families to attend college. In the ethnically-diverse states of California
and Illinois, minority student enrollment is 68 and 44 percent of total college
student enrollment, respectively.

"Given today`s tough economic conditions, DeVry University views `top-ten`
rankings such as the Hispanic Outlook report with high regard," added Pauldine.
"Fueling our success with various ethnic demographics is the fact that our
students appreciate DeVry`s focus on offering flexible course options and
career-oriented business and technology curricula which helps get them into the
job market much faster than if they attended a traditional institution."

For overall bachelor`s degrees conferred to Hispanics, DeVry University`s
locations in Illinois and California ranked 90th and 98th, respectively, among
all four-year universities in the U.S.
