U.S. Representative Darrell Issa to Speak at CompTIA Breakaway 2009

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill.--(Business Wire)-- CompTIA, the leading trade association for the global information technology (IT) industry, announced today that U.S. Representative Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) will deliver a keynote address at its Breakaway 2009 conference. Breakaway, the premier event for the North American IT channel, is set for Aug. 3 - 6 at the Mirage Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. Issa will deliver his remarks at the Breakaway awards dinner, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5. He will be joined by Larry Irving, president of Irving Information Group and co-chair of the Internet Innovation Alliance. "Breakaway attendees will hear a lively discussion from these two distinguished public servants on the current political trends and policy issues affecting our industry, as well as the opportunities that are available in today`s marketplace," said Kelly Ricker, vice president, events and conferences, CompTIA. First elected to Congress in 2000, Issa is the Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He also serves on the House Judiciary Committee. Issa represents the 49th Congressional District, which includes portions of northern San Diego County surrounding his hometown of Vista, as well as parts of southern Riverside County. Issa founded Directed Electronics, a manufacturer of automobile security and convenience products. He has served as chairman of the Consumer Electronics Association; member of the Board of Governors of the Electronics Industry Association; and director of the San Diego Economic Development Association and the Greater San Diego County Chamber of Commerce. Irving served for almost seven years as assistant secretary of commerce for communications and information and administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, where he was principal advisor to the president, vice president, and secretary of commerce on domestic and international telecommunications and information technology issues.
