TORONTO, ONTARIO, Jun 24 (MARKET WIRE) --
Tiny spaces, cramped bedrooms, broken walls, and bathrooms with no
headroom are only a small fraction of the problems faced by contestants
in the Viewit.ca Win Your Rent contest. Entries highlighted a mix of both
the funny and serious sides of rental accommodations in Canada, with
descriptions and images ranging from a high toilet seat in low ceiling
bathroom, to an empty aquarium with no electricity, internet or phone. On
the serious side, entries often showed the decrepit condition of walls,
ceilings and plumbing problems as well as infestations of various insects
and mold.
In the end, the contest viewers looking through the entries posted online
voted for Jenni Rivard, a single mother from Windsor, Ontario who is
facing a tough employment situation in her home town and is moving to
Hamilton where she plans to study to become a chef. The family
experienced an unexpected set back when their family dog, Samantha became
injured and the family was forced to sell many items to pay for the
veterinary bills that resulted. Although Samantha the dog is doing better
now, Jenni said that the prize money would "help ... get back some of the
things we sold, like a kitchen table, couch etc, so my kids don't have to
move into an empty apartment in a new city."
"When we launched this contest at the end of April, we really were not
sure what we would get in terms of entries and wanted simply to have
Viewit act as a resource for tenants to highlight both the challenges
they face or their sense of humour about renting," said Ryan Schwerdtner,
Managing Director, Viewit.ca. "In the end, we got a mix of both but the
more serious entries certainly highlighted the need to know what you're
renting before you sign on the dotted line."
The contest featured entrants who were required to post online images and
best worst of stories about their personal rental situations. Viewers
were asked to vote for the entries they deemed most deserving of the
$1,000 prize. No entry fee or use of the Viewit.ca service was required.

Viewit.ca was launched in 2001 and has over the past eight years become
Canada's top online portal for tenants and landlords showcasing thousands
of rental units across Canada including major cities such as Vancouver,
Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto.
"Since our inception Viewit.ca has always been about helping connect
tenants with great rental accommodation that they can see first online,
and to help narrow their search to the homes that best meet their needs,"
said Schwerdtner. "Some of the more serious entries point out that a
renter still needs to be careful out there and we hope that our "Save
time, see it first" service helps them to be more discriminating in their
choices. Viewit.ca is also a great place for the landlords who offer well
maintained accommodations to stand out from the crowd and to help them
find the right match in a tenant."
Viewit.ca is Canada's leading rental resource that allows people to see
rental properties online first, when looking for a home. Viewit.ca makes
finding a home easy, convenient and effective. Unlike traditional, print
classified ads, Viewit.ca gives renters all the information they need to
make the best choice including both interior and exterior views of the
home and its location, pricing and availability. In addition, locations
can be searched and segmented in a wide variety of price ranges,
locations and styles from within the full list of rental properties
available. Renters can also receive customized updates that keep them
informed as new homes become available that meet their needs.

across Canada, Viewit.ca saves renters time and money allowing them to
"Save time, See it first" and make better first choices about the
