ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--(Business Wire)-- Sacramento Kings forward Kenny Thomas will return to Albuquerque to bring his annual Kenny Thomas Foundation Basketball and Leadership Camp on Monday, July 6 through Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Highland High School, 4700 Coal Ave., S.E., Albuquerque, New Mexico 87108. The camp is open to boys and girls ages seven to 17. "The camp is a way for me to give back to communities that helped me to succeed," said Kenny Thomas, founder of the Kenny Thomas Foundation. "The youth will not only learn basketball techniques, but also leadership skills and the importance of teamwork while having a lot of fun." The Kenny Thomas Foundation was founded in October of 2007 to establish good will in its founders' hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico, as well as other cities where Thomas has lived. An alumnus of Albuquerque High School, Thomas furthered his education at the University of New Mexico (UNM) where he was a member of the UNM Men's Basketball (Lobos) Team, and presently ranks second on the Lobos' all-time scoring list. Thomas is currently a power forward for the NBA's Sacramento Kings. The Kenny Thomas Foundation seeks to implement tools to improve the success rate of our youth. The Foundation aims to accomplish this goal through college scholarships awarded to graduating college-bound seniors, and its Education Initiative programs. In July 2008, two Albuquerque High School students were awarded college scholarships in the amount of $6,000 each. The Highland High School Education Initiative program will begin in September 2009. Thomas will personally oversee the camp operations and be present to assist with drills, the championship game and end-of-camp awards program. The camp also will incorporate "Hoops-n-Scoop" enrichment sessions where the youth will chat with respected leaders, and get a chance to ask questions of college administration about furthering their education after high school. Awards will be presented in the areas of leadership, sportsmanship, camp MVP, attendance and hard work. An early bird registration fee of $75 is extended through June 30, 2009, with the fee increasing to $100, thereafter. Registration and payment is available online at www.kennythomas.net.
