MADISON, WI, Jun 24 (MARKET WIRE) --
Madison Media Institute (MMI) has broken ground on an additional
facility, which will feature a high-tech, commercial-grade theater for
the Media Systems Technology students to develop, update and learn.
Located adjacent to the original building, this new structure will expand
the campus and house classes for both the Media Systems Technology
program and the new Game Art and Animation program. Once the large-format
theater is fully constructed, all MMI students will be able to utilize the
space to showcase their talent and demonstrate their skills.
MMI's Media Systems Technology program began this summer and is being head
by Ben Engwall, a graduate of MMI who has over ten years' experience in
the Audio/Video industry. Engwall has extensive knowledge in project
management, engineering, system design, programming, installation and live
sound reinforcement. He is a member of the Custom Electronics Design and
Installation Association, and has designed and installed a wide variety of
residential, commercial and automation systems.
The Media Systems Technology program allows students to develop a solid
foundation in principles of electricity and electronics, and the
application of low-voltage electronics to residential and commercial
applications. Students acquire the basics of media systems design,
especially as it relates to sound and video systems. "Our Media Systems
Technology program is different from other programs in that we are
focusing on current emerging technologies in the residential world... data
networking, home automation and green technology. Our goal in the new
facility is to recreate residential and commercial installation
environments where students can learn the application of new technology,
as well as new construction and retrofit installation techniques," said
Engwall.
Students will learn the installation of low-voltage cabling and the
integration of a variety of systems, including home theater, distributed
audio, home automation, CCTV, intercom, access control, fire alarm,
security and data networking. They will gain experience with components
ranging from LCD projectors and audio components to networking
infrastructure. They will work with a variety of tools and hardware,
including digital multitesters, cable testers, reflectometers, cabling,
switches, connector blocks, racks, and servers. Throughout the program
they are trained in on-the-job safety.
Madison Media Institute, established in 1969, specializes in media career
training through hands-on work with cutting-edge equipment. Specific areas
of curriculum include Digital Media Design & Production, Recording & Music
Technology, Video & Motion Graphics, Media Systems Technology, Game Art &
Animation and Entertainment & Media Business. Programs and facilities are
continually upgraded to coincide with developments made in technology and
