Bright Spot for Growth Despite Otherwise Gloomy Telecommunications Capital
Spending Environment
BOSTON--(Business Wire)--
The opportunity for vendors of service delivery platform (SDP) products,
solutions and services to grow revenue remains strong due to increasing consumer
and enterprise demand for personalized wireless services. Yankee Group estimates
worldwide SDP spending will be U.S.$6.4 billion by the year 2012, reflecting a
29 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) increase through the forecast
period.

The SDP enables service providers to quickly and cost effectively introduce new
services-like voice and messaging integrated with social media-and deploy new
business models to move ahead of the traditional, Internet-centric competition.

With 41 percent of consumers planning to purchase an advanced OS phone as their
next mobile platform and adoption of connected home devices predicted to grow to
91 million devices by 2013, telecom operators require SDPs to innovate and
satisfy the evolving demand for a highly personalized service and experience.

"Although overall telecom capex will decrease by 4.2 percent in 2009 and remain
relatively flat in 2010, SDP spending will experience double-digit growth during
the next three years," says Brian Partridge, Yankee Group director and author of
the report, "Service Delivery Platform Spending Will Experience Strong Growth
Through 2012."

"The SDP market is more than a nice growth story. It remains a key battlefield
in a quest for dominance among Tier 1 operators."
