SunTrust Makes Key Appointments in Wealth & Investment Management, Business
Banking, and Memphis Leadership

ATLANTA, June 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SunTrust Banks, Inc. (NYSE: STI)
announced key appointments within its Wealth & Investment Management and
Business Banking divisions and leadership of its Memphis banking operations.

John J. Geraghty, a SunTrust veteran with more than 20 years of service with
the Bank, has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Fiduciary Officer
within SunTrust's Wealth & Investment Management division.  In this role, he
is responsible for the overall oversight of trust and estate administration
for SunTrust, including risk management, account acceptance, and compliance to
trust administration and estate settlement.  He is also responsible for the
oversight, strategy, staff and development of the financial planning platform.

Prior to this role, Mr. Geraghty was head of the Wealth & Investment
Management Line of Business for the Greater Atlanta and North Georgia markets,
a position that John R. Frazer has assumed.

As Executive Vice President, Georgia Area Line of Business Manager for Wealth
& Investment Management, Mr. Frazer is responsible for leading sales and
service efforts and the overall execution of business strategies for the state
of Georgia.  He is a SunTrust veteran with 20 years of service with the Bank. 


Prior to this position, Mr. Frazer served as President and CEO of SunTrust
Bank, Memphis.  Johnny B. Moore has been named to fill that role.  With more
than 17 years of experience with SunTrust and its predecessor institution in
Memphis, Mr. Moore leads the Bank's operations which consist of 37 retail
offices throughout Memphis and the Mid-South.  He previously served as head of
the region's Commercial Line of Business.

Additionally, SunTrust announced that Bill Holt will be joining the Company
from Wells Fargo & Company in Charlotte, N.C., as Executive Vice President and
head of Business Banking.  In this role he will be responsible for leading all
operating aspects of that line of business across the Company's footprint.  At
Wells he most recently served as Executive Vice President and Wholesale
Banking Group Chief Operating Officer.  He brings more than 25 years of
banking experience with Wells and its predecessor institution in Charlotte,
Wachovia.
