The Edible Garden, Summer-Long Exhibitions at The New York Botanical Garden

NEW YORK, June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Set throughout The New York Botanical
Garden's 250-acre landscape, The Edible Garden is a summer-long celebration of
growing great food. Multiple exhibitions inspire visitors to grow, prepare,
and eat garden-fresh produce and offer opportunities for children and adults
to better understand how plants provide the food and drink essential to
maintaining life, enhancing wellness, and sustaining the planet. Details can

Visitors to the Botanical Garden can enjoy two Festival Weekends--June 27 & 28
and September 12 & 13--that celebrate local, sustainable food choices and
global cuisine, respectively; seven Thursday evenings, July 9-August 20,
including wine and beer tastings, and food-related programming; and
exhibitions such as Martha Stewart's Culinary Herb Garden, Beginner's
Vegetable Garden,Seed Savers Heirloom Vegetable Garden,Tropical Fruits, Roots,
and Shoots, among others.
The Edible Audio Tour, narrated by Mario Batali, with commentary by James
Beard Foundation 2009 Outstanding Chef Award-Winner Dan Barber, allows
visitors to discover where their food comes from and how it gets to their
table.
Through a wide variety of displays and programs, The Edible Garden
demonstrates the bounty of edible plants, teaches vegetable growing and garden
design, and offers celebrity food presentations. Esteemed chefs and television
personalities scheduled to appear include Martha Stewart, Emeril Lagasse,
Lidia Bastianich, Daisy Martinez, Aida Mollenkamp, Sunny Anderson, Anne
Burrell, and other connoisseurs.
On select days Cooking Demonstrations in the Conservatory Kitchen located on
the Conservatory Lawn, provided by Viking and designed by National Kitchen &
Bath Association, will showcase renowned and up-and-coming chefs using the
latest in kitchenware from sponsor Anolon. Visitors will discover "farm to
table" cooking, new and exciting ways of incorporating fresh produce and herbs
into everyday meals, lectures, and panels.
Good Food Gardens, sponsored by Food Network, uses gardens as a
nutrition-education tool that provides kids with affordable access to the food
they need to live active, healthy lives. After The Edible Garden ends, Food
Network will donate the Good Food Garden on display in the Home Gardening
Center to a local school.
Through horticulture, education, and science programming, The Edible Garden
showcases the essential role that the Botanical Garden plays in researching,
understanding, and educating the public about the significance of edible
