Accident Claims Life of Otis Elevator Mechanic

  TORONTO, ONTARIO, Jun 24 (MARKET WIRE) --

    Early Wednesday morning a tragic accident occurred involving a mechanic
from Otis Elevators at 66 Wellington Street West tower. Our deepest
sympathies go out to the family and friends of the deceased whose
identity has not yet been publicly released.

    We can confirm that as of 2:03 pm EST all eight passengers were safely
removed from the #27 elevator cab on the 44th floor where they had been
enclosed.

    The Toronto-Dominion Centre has been fully cooperating with investigators
throughout the day as emergency responders diligently attend to the scene.

    The Ministry of Labour is on scene working in partnership with the
Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) to determine the cause of
this incident, which remains unknown at this time.

    For the past five years maintenance and repair of the elevator equipment
has been contracted to Otis elevators.

    The investigation of the accident continues, no further facts are known
at the present time.
