WASHINGTON, June 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Warren S. George, international
president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, today issued the following
statement concerning the June 22 Metrorail crash in Washington, DC:

"On behalf of the entire International Union, I offer my heartfelt condolences
to the family and friends of our fallen member, Jeanise McMillan, and all of
those who lost loved ones as a result of this tragedy.

"With regard to the accident, I think it is unfair and unacceptable to
speculate that the ATU operator may have been in any way responsible for the
incident. Until a fair and thorough investigation is completed there will be
no basis for statements implying that anyone or anything is to blame for the
accident.

"The International fully supports [Washington, DC's Local 689] President
Jackie Jeter's call for honesty and a full disclosure of the facts during the
investigation."
