CAIRO, June 24 (Reuters) - Kyrgyzstan's deal with the United States to keep open a threatened U.S. air base in Central Asia was agreed with Russia as part of an effort to ease the situation in Afghanistan, a Kremlin source said on Wednesday.

"Kyrgyzstan agreed its decision (on the base) with Russia," the source said during a visit by President Dmitry Medvedev to Egypt. "We support all steps aimed at stabilising the situation in Afghanistan." (Reporting by Oleg Shchedrov, writing by Guy Faulconbridge, editing by Michael Stott)
