CANBERRA, June 25 (Reuters) - The Australian parliament's upper house Senate on Thursday formally rejected a government push to force a vote on its carbon trade laws on the last day of sitting before the winter break.

The government wants carbon trading to cover 1,000 of Australia's biggest polluters and to start in July 2011, but a vote on the laws is now set to be delayed until at least August despite government hopes of passing the laws on Thursday. (Reporting by James Grubel)
