Queercents: Financial Triage - Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Financial gurus like Suze Orman
and David Bach advise people to cut back on coffee in order to save money - $5
a day adds up pretty quickly. But Queercents, a personal finance blog serving
the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, is taking a critical
look at the "latte factor" to see if it amounts to a hill of beans.
Author Regan McClure says she remembers her own confusion when she first tried
to tackle her finances. "I either stumbled across arcane math formulas for
ranking bond yields or was told to save pennies by cutting back on my coffee
intake, and I didn't drink coffee. I didn't know how to place myself in the
big picture. Was I doing okay overall? What steps did I need to take, and in
what sequence? I hope my article will help people assess a good starting place
for themselves."
McClure is urging a different approach. Don't sweat the small stuff and focus
on the big picture instead. "If you've got big crises looming over you, it's
ridiculous to only think in these terms. It's like making diet plans to lose a
hundred pounds by spitting out a single bite of your donut each day."
