SIGA Technologies, Inc. to be Added to the Russell 3000(r) and Russell Global(r)
Indices

NEW YORK, June 26, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SIGA Technologies, Inc.
(Nasdaq:SIGA), a company specializing in the development of pharmaceutical
agents to fight biowarfare pathogens, announced today that it will be added to
the Russell 3000(r) and the Russell Global(r) Indices, following Russell
Investment Group's annual reconstitution of its family of indices on June 26,
2009, after the U.S. markets close. The Russell 3000 Index measures the
performance of the largest 3000 U.S. companies representing approximately 98% of
the investable U.S. equity market and serves as the U.S. component to the
Russell Global Index.

"SIGA's inclusion in the Russell 3000 is another validation of the Company's
development over this past year. We have worked hard to bring the Company to
where it is today and we believe this milestone reflects our commitment to
growing SIGA and adding value to our shareholders," said Dr. Eric Rose, SIGA's
Chairman and CEO. "Becoming a member of the Russell 3000 will increase the
visibility of our stock and generate greater awareness of our business within
the investment community."

Membership in the Russell 3000 means SIGA is automatically included in the
small-cap Russell 2000 Index as well as the appropriate growth and value style
indexes. Russell provides its equity index family to investment managers and
institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for both passive and
active investment strategies. According to Russell, $4 trillion in assets
currently are benchmarked to its indices. Total returns data for the Russell
Indexes are available at http://www.russell.com/Indexes/performance/default.asp.
