WASHINGTON, June 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Chairman of the
Congressional Urban Caucus, Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA), citing the future
of "millions of young Americans," tonight cast his vote as part of the
seven-vote majority to advance historic legislation that will create clean
energy jobs, combat global warming and provide energy security for the United
States.

"I rise in support of this very important bill on behalf of my four children
and for millions of young Americans who we hope never to see another die on a
foreign battlefield trying to get oil from some other place in the world. We
need independence in our energy," Rep. Fattah told the House of
Representatives during floor debate on The American Clean Energy and Security
Act, H.R. 2454.

The broad based legislation was approved by the House, 219 to 212. It writes
into law the clean energy policy and climate change goals articulated by
President Obama. The bill now moves to the Senate.

"Americans want our nation to get moving on clean energy. They are eager for
energy reform and incentives that put millions of people to work. They want
our nation to reduce dependence on foreign energy sources. And Americans want
our nation to take the lead in reducing pollution and combating man-made
climate change," Rep. Fattah said in an earlier statement. "This bill points
the way for us to accomplish all of these goals."

Fattah, of Philadelphia, heads the bipartisan Congressional Urban Caucus
advocating for the nation's urban and metropolitan areas. He said clean energy
is a key ingredient in reviving our cities and suburbs.

"Clean energy incentives will have far-reaching impact on the metropolitan
areas that are the engines of our national economy," Fattah said. "We will be
putting people with modest incomes to work in good jobs, new jobs that will
boost our economy at the same time we are helping our planet."

Fattah added: "President Obama and Speaker Pelosi are to be commended for
their strong leadership and clear vision on Clean Energy initiatives. This is
energy policy we can live with, energy we can thrive and grow with. We heard
from some nay-sayers in Congress who like the status quo. But that is not what
the American people want. They want bold action, and this legislation
delivers."
