CHELMSFORD, Mass.--(Business Wire)--
Sycamore Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCMR), an industry leader in intelligent
bandwidth management solutions for network operators worldwide, today announced
the Company has successfully demonstrated multi-vendor interoperability during a
global, multi-carrier test event designed to advance the development and
implementation of end-to-end dynamically provisioned broadband services.

Participating at Verizon`s network laboratory (Waltham, Massachusetts) as part
of the Optical Internetworking Forum`s (OIF) 2009 Worldwide Interoperability
Demonstration, Sycamore successfully demonstrated a wide range of Broadband
On-Demand test configurations including dynamically switched Ethernet Virtual
Private Line (EVPL), end-to-end service restoration using E-NNI (External
Network-to-Network Interface) 2.0 signaling implementation agreement, and
multi-vendor OTN/G.709 transport connectivity.

"Advanced control plane technologies are a key enabler of dynamic optical mesh,
automated end-to-end provisioning, and multi-layer packet/optical service
integration," said Kevin Oye, vice president of systems and technology at
Sycamore Networks. "As a long-standing member of the Optical Internetworking
Forum, we continue to support the OIF`s industry-leading multi-vendor
interoperability initiatives leveraging our experiences helping network
operators around the world yield tangible benefits from deploying dynamic
optical mesh technologies to produce more efficient and agile optical core
networks."

"Interoperability and end-to-end network automation are critical issues for
service providers, who want to reduce manual intervention and drive cost out of
the network," said Ron Kline, Research Director at Ovum. "The latest OIF
interoperability demo moves forward innovative features that are aimed at
reducing network operations, administration, and maintenance costs while also
improving providers' ability to dynamically allocate bandwidth and offer novel
new services."

Products and technologies featured during the multi-vendor test activity
included the Company`s ASON/GMPLS-compliant SN 16000 optical switching platform,
standards-based multi-layer Ethernet transport, dynamic end-to-end provisioning
powered by BroadLeaf intelligent networking software, and the Universal Service
Card (USC), a highly cost-efficient service module that supports - on a single
line card - a broad range of network interfaces, including Gigabit Ethernet, 10
Gigabit Ethernet, SONET/SDH, pluggable optics, and OTN/G.709 transport.

This year`s OIF test event, conducted in carrier labs around the world beginning
in March, culminated in a series of real-time, global network demonstrations
showcased at industry events, including iPOP in Tokyo (June 11), the OIF Carrier
Lab Day at Verizon Laboratory (June 19), and the IIR WDM & Next Generation
Optical Networking Conference in Nice, France (June 25).

About the OIF

Launched in April of 1998, the OIF is the only industry group uniting
representatives from data and optical networking disciplines, including many of
the world's leading carriers, component manufacturers and system vendors. The
OIF promotes the development and deployment of interoperable networking
solutions and services through the creation of Implementation Agreements (IAs)
for optical, interconnect, network processing and component technologies, and
optical networking systems. The OIF actively supports and extends the work of
standards bodies with the goal of promoting worldwide compatibility of optical
internetworking products. Working relationships or formal liaisons have been
established with the Ethernet Alliance, IEEE 802.3, IETF, ITU-T Study Group 13,
ITU-T Study Group 15, IPv6 Forum, MEF, ATIS OPTXS, ATIS TMOC, Rapid I/O, TMF,
UXPi and the XFP MSA Group. Information on the OIF can be found at
