Maritime Cargo Processing Uses CA Wily Application Performance Management to
Maximize the Value of its Web-based Inventory Service
CA Wily Introscope Helps MCP Achieve Lean IT to Ensure 17 UK Ports Operate
Effectively
ISLANDIA, N.Y., June 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CA today announced that
Maritime Cargo Processing (MCP), a leading supplier of Port Community Systems
in the UK, is achieving Lean IT by using the CA Wily Application Performance
Management (APM) solution to help maximize the availability and performance of
Destin8, a Web-based inventory service used to process thousands of shipments
at 17 UK ports.
MCP uses CA Wily Introscope(R), a key component of the CA Wily APM solution,
to help prevent downtime of Destin8, which could impact the service's 3,000
users and related activities at ports such as Felixstowe, Thamesport,
Liverpool, Teesport, Bristol and Grangemouth. CA Wily Introscope proactively
monitors the performance of the service elements, which are built on Java
technologies and underpinned by 13 servers operating around-the-clock. The CA
solution can help MCP to identify, triage and resolve application performance
problems before customers are impacted.
As well as helping to maintain availability, CA Wily Introscope helps MCP
ensure that Destin8 performs at an optimum level. Destin8's users expect
customs clearances and other business-critical transactions to be processed in
a matter of minutes. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and electronic
messaging play an extremely important part in the operation of Destin8.
"Destin8 is a highly complex Web-based system that requires active management
in order to ensure it meets business and service level objectives, optimizes
customers' online experience, and achieves application performance and
availability goals," said Pete Inman, project leader, Maritime Cargo
Processing. "CA Wily Introscope has been instrumental in not only helping to
protect MCP's revenue but also maintain customer satisfaction."
The Port of Felixstowe's IT team, which is responsible for operating Destin8
on a day-to-day basis, uses the CA solution to help identify potential
problems with the Port Community System. "A number of core processes within
Destin8 rely on integration with other online applications, such as official
Customs systems," added Inman. "If this link is lost, port activities are
severely hampered. CA Wily Introscope helps alert the support team to such an
issue. It can also provide information to help the team determine whether they
are able to resolve the problem themselves or need to call us in to fix it."
MCP also uses CA Wily Introscope to provide a live system availability feed on
its Web site. By sharing application performance information with existing and
potential customers, MCP can reassure them of the quality of the Destin8
application.
"Destin8 is MCP's main revenue stream and a business-critical system for its
customers," said Chris Cook, corporate senior vice president and general
manager of CA's Application Performance Management business unit. "By using CA
Wily APM to help maximize the availability and performance of Destin8, MCP is
achieving Lean IT and is better able to protect its revenue, optimize the
customer experience, and help ensure ports can operate effectively."
