PALO ALTO, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
As part of its commitment to local enterprises, Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris,
Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., has agreed to provide pro bono legal services to
Singularity University (SU), a new, nontraditional, academic institution that
will assemble a core student body of leaders from many parts of the world
seeking to understand the significance of exponentially advancing technologies
and their interaction with one another. The university will also explore how
technologies can be shaped and directed to address some of humanity`s grand
challenges such as pandemics, climate change and global health concerns.

"Silicon Valley is the heartland of technological achievement and brainpower,
making it a natural home for this highly innovative educational effort," said
Bob Taylor, managing member of Mintz Levin`s Palo Alto office. "We are delighted
to be one of Singularity University`s partners and we look forward to an
interesting and exciting relationship, which will involve lawyers from several
of our offices and a number of the firm`s disciplines."

SU`s academic objectives include searching the globe to assemble the best and
brightest postgraduate students and young professionals to study how growing
technologies can best be used to address humanity`s greatest challenges while
evaluating their legal, policy, economic, ethical and social implications. SU`s
goal is to promote these advances through the creation of new businesses, new
research directions in academia, and new collaborations, as well as to
communicate the critical effects, and potential risks and benefits of these
fields to the public.

Based at NASA`s Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley, SU is the brainchild of
renowned scientist Ray Kurzweil and space entrepreneur Peter Diamandis.

"We are excited to have the support of Mintz Levin as an essential partner as we
bring this new University to life. We are also especially fortunate to have Mint
Levin`s Managing Partner Bob Taylor as Co-Chair of Singularity University`s
Policy Law and Ethics track," said Susan Fonseca-Klein, SU`s Vice President of
Operations.

The school has received funding from business leaders and companies in Silicon
Valley, including Google. Singularity University`s inaugural class begins today,
with its first 9-week Graduate Studies Program 2009 (GSP-09). SU`s curriculum is
highly interdisciplinary and has been developed to be complementary with
existing academic regimes that focus on medicine, biotechnology, energy,
environmental, artificial intelligence, robotics and future studies, along with
financial and economic implications and the legal, policy and ethical questions
that such technologies raise.

Singularity University offers three programs.

Graduate Studies Nine Week Program for top graduate and postgraduate students
worldwide. The inaugural 2009 class will be limited to 40 students and
subsequent years will have up to 120 students.

Executive Program, 10-Day (starts Fall 2009) for mid-level managers and leaders
seeking to understand the convergence of multiple technologies and how this may
affect planning and day-to-day operations.

Executive Program, 3-Day (starts Fall 2009) for C-level executives this program
offers a strategic review of a rapidly changing business landscape wrought by
accelerating technological advance.
