Adm. Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to Address the National Press Club WASHINGTON, June 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Adm. Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will address the National Press Club on July 8 about recent developments in U.S. national security and priorities going forward. Mullen plans to speak about how to best accomplish U.S. objectives in the Middle East; how to revitalize the U.S. armed forces after several years of war; and how to position the U.S. military to be ready to face a range of threats now and in the future. Adm. Mullen will have recently returned from a trip abroad that includes planned stops in Russia, France and Germany. In his speech and his answers to reporters' questions, Mullen is likely to address the latest on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the fight against terrorism worldwide and other important issues. His remarks come amid debates in Washington on everything from the disposition and treatment of detainees in U.S. military custody to the fate of multibillion-dollar weapons programs. Admiral Mullen was sworn in as the 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on October 1, 2007. He serves as the principal military advisor to the President, the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council. A native of Los Angeles, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1968. He has served in a variety of command positions at sea and ashore.
