Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq: ACTG) announced today that its wholly owned
subsidiary, Screentone Systems Corporation, has entered into a settlement and
license agreement with Ricoh Company, Ltd. covering a patent portfolio directed
to methods for digital halftone screening. 

This patented technology generally relates to methods for improving print image
quality through the use of advanced signal processing techniques for
transforming continuous toned images into high quality half toned images. This
technology can be used in printing products such as high end laser printers and
image setters.
