                          Transfer of Treasury Shares                          

Spectris plc announces that on 30 June 2009, the following ordinary shares have
been transferred from treasury stock for the purposes of employee share option
allotments under the Spectris Performance Share Plan:

4,630 shares of 5 pence per share

Following the above transfer, the total number of Spectris plc ordinary shares
in issue (excluding the total of 9,612,613 ordinary shares now held in
treasury) is 115,392,510.
