WALTHAM, Mass.--(Business Wire)--
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. (SGH) today announced it recently received a
Platinum Engineering Excellence award from the American Council of Engineering
Companies of New York (ACEC New York) in the category of Structural Systems. The
Engineering Excellence awards are bestowed based on innovation, originality, and
the project`s value for the engineering profession as well as society as a
whole.

The New Museum of Contemporary Art was designed to be as bold and daring as the
art it showcases. As the structural engineer of record and facade consultant,
SGH played an integral role in transforming the architectural conceptual design
into reality. The design consisted of a stack of boxes with overhangs and
offsets with skylights to allow natural light into the gallery spaces below. Guy
Nordenson and Associates (GNA) and SGH acted as a team on the structural design
and the architectural design was developed by Japanese architectural firm SANAA.
Gensler served as Executive Architects. . SGH also provided consulting for the
building enclosure systems. This project would not have been possible without
close collaboration from all the firms involved in the design and construction
of the museum.

"We are honored that our industry peers recognized our work on the New Museum.
ACEC New York`s recognition is a testament to the work SGH regularly performs to
bring complex concepts into reality," said Glenn Bell, SGH chief executive
officer. "Our collaboration with GNA was integral to our success on this
project, and receiving the award reflects the strength of our team."
