Multimedia learning channels enhance the physician education experience BOSTON--(Business Wire)-- Today, the Pri-Med brand, owned and operated by M|C Communications LLC in Boston, MA, announces that its large, regional educational events-Pri-Med Conference and Exhibition-have proven successful despite current economic conditions and changes to PhRMA Code regulations. This performance demonstrates that there exists a pent up demand among primary care clinicians for deeper insights into clinical practice information that improve efficiency and patient care. Notably, doctors continue to find live meetings with peers and colleagues important for information gathering to stay current on medical advancements, as evidenced by over 20,000 clinician registrants across Pri-Med`s four spring conferences. These live, educational programs, developed in partnership with leading academic medical centers, combine interactive lectures with a range of new media offerings that together deliver timely, relevant education in preferred learning formats. Most recently, the Pri-Med West program, with a core continuing medical education curricula designed and presented by Harvard Medical School and UCLA, registered over 8,300 clinicians-the highest of any Pri-Med conference since inception 14 years ago-demonstrating the value clinicians place on face-to-face information exchange. "There is a perception by some that live educational conventions are becoming a thing of the past," said Frank Britt, General Manager, Pri-Med. "At Pri-Med, we agree that new education models are needed to address the ever-changing scientific and information requirements of the 21st century clinician. The attendance at our 2009 conferences clearly demonstrates that, even with economic pressures and increasing case loads, primary care practitioners still make it a priority to attend world class programs. However, it is imperative that providers invest in and implement new media channels to complement live learning. At Pri-Med, we are making solid progress toward developing a model where live and online delivery channels can work in tandem, rather than cannibalize one another." In addition to economic factors, the recently released PhRMA guidelines and new state regulations changed the typical exhibition landscape which consisted of giveaways and product-branded trinkets. Industry was concerned that physicians would lose interest in visiting the show floor; instead, the opposite proved true. One pharmaceutical exhibitor at Pri-Med noted, "Pri-Med has exceeded our expectations. We are finding that doctors are coming to our booth because they want product information, not just to grab a free pen." The use of content-rich multi-media has also contributed to a renewed convention experience and inspired alternative engagement models. For example, Pri-Med recently implemented several new education platforms, including Harvard Medical School ask-the-expert sessions to gain exposure to key opinion leaders, self-guided electronic kiosks so clinicians can learn at their own pace, and hands-on demonstrations for up-close learning. By going beyond the typical lecture format synonymous with medical conferences, Pri-Med is able to ensure that clinicians can get the most from their time out of the office to be the most effective while in the office. Pri-Med`s next regional conference, Pri-Med New York, will take place August 28-30 at the Javits Convention Center in New York, New York. Registration has officially opened for the event, and can be accessed at www.pri-med.com/nyc.
