First industry-wide system for tracking carbon footprint of supply chains

WASHINGTON, June 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Electronics Industry
Citizenship Coalition (EICC) today announced the launch of its new Carbon
Reporting System. The on-line system allows companies in the electronics
industry to calculate their greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and share the data
with other companies in the industry. The system was developed to improve
measurements and increase understanding of GHG emissions across the
electronics industry supply chain. This is a key category of "Scope 3"
emissions under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

"EICC is pleased that 21 global electronics firms have subscribed to the
Carbon Reporting System," stated EICC Chairman John Gabriel. "EICC is leading
collaborative efforts with supply chain companies to collect, track, and
reduce greenhouse gas emissions at all levels in the electronics industry."

The EICC system collects and tracks the emissions of direct suppliers to
participating companies, and provides guidance for estimating the allocation
of emissions to clients. Companies that use the system have the option to
report emissions data down to the facility level. The system will convert
units of measurement, calculate emissions in Metric Tonnes of Carbon
Equivalents (MTCE), and aggregate data from all of a company's facilities.

Unlike lifecycle-based approaches to supply chain emissions, the EICC system
gathers primary data from companies at different levels in the supply chain,
which increases transparency and accountability in the industry. EICC will
leverage industry data collected through the system over the coming months to
identify opportunities for improvement and collaboration.

The voluntary system is free for EICC member companies. Electronics companies
that are not EICC members can subscribe to the Carbon Reporting System for
$5,000 this year. The fee allows participation of up to 100 suppliers who may
use the system to calculate and share global emissions data, and to share
practical information on climate and energy management practices.

About EICC

EICC was established in 2004 to improve social, economic, and environmental
conditions in the global electronics supply chain through use of a
standardized code of conduct. EICC was incorporated in 2007 as an association
to ensure greater awareness of the code, and to expand its adoption across the
industry. EICC includes 40 global electronics companies.
