DENVER--(Business Wire)--
Downtown Colorado, Inc. (DCI), a nonprofit membership organization committed to
building better Colorado communities through educational and technical
assistance, as well as the coordinator of the Colorado Main Street Program,
announces the launch of a Colorado heritage tour website at
www.coloradoheritagetravel.org. The website is designed to guide visitors and
residents in their visits to Colorado`s historical attractions in and around the
Colorado Main Street communities.

"With walkable historic downtowns and beautifully preserved buildings, the
Colorado Main Street communities provide the perfect starting point for visitors
who want to explore the rich heritage of Colorado," says Katherine Correll,
Executive Director of Downtown Colorado, Inc.

The Colorado Main Street Program is designed to revitalize traditional downtown
districts within the context of historic preservation. The program uses an
approach that advocates a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment,
and the rebuilding of central business districts based on their traditional
assets of unique architecture, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of
community.

To be designated a Main Street community, a town must demonstrate local
readiness and support, submit an in-depth application, and make a presentation
to the Colorado Main Street Selection committee. DCI is a statewide nonprofit
organization that manages the Colorado Main Street Program. Currently there are
eight Main Street communities: Arvada, Berthoud, Brush, Granby, Greeley, Lake
City, Monte Vista, and Steamboat Springs.

The Colorado Main Street Program is partially funded by the State Historical
Fund. The Colorado Main Street Heritage Tours information and website is made
possible by a grant from the Colorado Tourism Office. Brochures will be
available for distribution in the Colorado Tourism Office, and various visitors
bureaus by the end of July. Journalists and visitors can contact Downtown
Colorado, Inc. to obtain a brochure before this date.
