IRVING, TX, Jul 01 (MARKET WIRE) -- Scottsdale Healthcare, a three-hospital health system based in Scottsdale, Ariz., has joined VHA Inc., a national health care network, to take its efforts to drive efficiency and improve the quality of care it offers patients to new levels. Scottsdale Healthcare executives said they based their decision on the strength of VHA's supply chain management program, the breadth of its clinical improvement services and the opportunities VHA provides to network with other leaders across the VHA alliance. The competition among health care alliances and GPOs to work with Scottsdale Healthcare was tough, the executives said, a signal of both the robust options in the marketplace and the strength of the VHA proposal. "Scottsdale Healthcare's non-profit community-based mission is to provide the highest quality and most compassionate care for all individuals," said Tom Sadvary, president and chief executive officer at Scottsdale Healthcare. "VHA has a strong track record of helping not-for-profit hospitals, and we look forward to the opportunities this agreement brings to return cost savings to our community through our ongoing investment in medical talent and services." VHA was selected as Scottsdale Healthcare's group purchasing vendor following an exhaustive review to determine the greatest opportunities to manage costs responsibly. Importantly, VHA provides Scottsdale Healthcare new ways to save money on supply purchases, the single largest expense for any hospital behind labor. Membership in VHA means Scottsdale Healthcare gains access to Novation, VHA's medical supply contracting company. VHA has guaranteed Scottsdale Healthcare significant savings in supply costs over the next two years. Scottsdale Healthcare also will participate in VHA's national and regional networks, benchmarking services, and clinical quality and safety improvement collaborative, all designed to keep quality and operational efficiencies high. According to Curt Nonomaque, president and chief executive officer for VHA, Scottsdale Healthcare is joining VHA at a crucial time. "The national conversation about health care means all parts of the system have to change and work better. The old belief of 'spend more, get more' is out," he said. "VHA will help Scottsdale Healthcare thrive in this shifting environment, making more resources available for more patients. Better health care is what it's all about."
