Leading Developer Selects Energy-Efficient Otis Products for Projects Across
China
FARMINGTON, Conn., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Otis Elevator Company's joint
venture Xizi Otis has secured a new contract from Longfor Properties, a
leading real estate developer in China. Xizi Otis will deliver and install 442
elevators and 10 escalators for residential and commercial projects in four
cities. The order, which includes energy-saving Gen2(R) elevators with
ReGen(TM) drives, is the second awarded by Longfor Properties to Xizi Otis,
the largest of Otis' 10 joint ventures in China. Otis is a unit of United
Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX).
"We are delighted that Longfor Properties chose to expand its relationship
with Xizi Otis with a second major order," said Otis President Didier
Michaud-Daniel. "This selection underscores their confidence in the
reliability and performance of our elevators and escalators, as well as the
value of our energy-conserving technology for high-quality real estate
projects."
For this new contract, Xizi Otis will provide Longfor Properties with a mix of
elevator products that include machine-roomless Gen2 systems and other
energy-efficient gearless systems featuring permanent-magnet machines and
ReGen drive technology. The units will be installed in residential and office
buildings in Beijing and the three Western China cities of Chongqing, Chengdu
and Xi'an. In 2007, Longfor Properties awarded Xizi Otis a contract for 344
elevators and escalators for projects in Chongqing, Chengdu and Beijing.
Gen2 elevators use flat, polyurethane-coated steel belts and reduce energy
consumption by up to 50 percent compared with conventional systems. When
combined with ReGen drives, the Gen2 system delivers energy savings of up to
75 percent. ReGen drives capture the energy usually lost by the elevator
system as heat during braking and feed it back into a building's internal
electrical grid for use by other systems connected to the same network such as
lighting.
Otis is committed to leading the way to a greener future by reducing energy
consumption throughout the entire lifecycle of its products. In addition to
offering energy-saving solutions, Otis continues to minimize the environmental
impact of its processes and manufacturing practices by reducing energy and
water consumption. Otis was recently recognized with Gold-level Leadership in
Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification of the Otis Elevator
Company TEDA Center office building in China by the U.S. Green Building
Council. Located in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area
(TEDA), the Otis TEDA Center site also includes manufacturing facilities for
green elevator products including the Gen2 system. The site incorporates
advanced technologies to reduce energy consumption by at least 25 percent
compared to conventional construction methods and materials.
